Water Resources

Essential to life and critical to economic growth, water is the world’s most valuable resource and plays a vital role in building strong communities. CFS focuses on helping communities design infrastructure to address the complex challenges we face. CFS helps re-imagine an infrastructure future that is fiscally responsible, addressing water utilities, detention, and ecological restoration projects. We plan for modern water and sanitation systems to provide more people with access to clean water and a healthier environment. We acknowledge the existing ecological processes affecting a site and employ creative design solutions to establish self-sustaining stream, riparian, and wetland systems with minimal need for post-construction maintenance

Services

Waterlines

CFS provides long-term solutions to improve or extend waterlines to meet the needs of the community. Our civil engineers have conducted full-scale waterline replacement projects for entire communities and provide modeling expertise to help municipalities plan for ongoing improvements to their systems. We help our clients manage aging infrastructure, increase system capacity, minimize the potential for water main breaks, and reduce contamination of potable water sources to ensure longevity of the system. We maintain close relationships with regulatory agencies in order to keep our clients informed on all drinking water regulations.

Stormwater

CFS is dedicated to delivering innovative, sustainable stormwater solutions that not only meet current needs but also proactively address future regulatory requirements. We specialize in conducting comprehensive studies for communities of all sizes, ensuring successful improvements to both new and existing developments. Our proven track record of successful stormwater detention and Best Management Practices (BMP) studies across Missouri and Kansas underscores our commitment to sustainable community growth and enhancement.

Detention Dams

CFS specializes in the safe design and construction of earthen detention dams, ensuring compliance with all state and federal jurisdictional requirements. We partner with state and federal agencies to tailor each design based on the dam's hazard classification and required storage capacity. The history of failures in poorly designed earth embankments underscores the need for expert engineering throughout the design and construction of these structures. CFS's experts are highly skilled in designing comprehensive rehabilitation solutions, including principal spillway rehabilitation (using PVC, HDPE, or CIPP liners), auxiliary spillway rehabilitation, slope protection, erosion control, and proper compaction standards and foundation/drawdown drains. We provide design, inspection, and emergency action plan services for watershed districts, communities, and private landowners across Kansas and Missouri.

Wastewater

CFS uses advanced data-collection technology to comprehensively evaluate traffic conditions, including speed, congestion, level of service, crashes, and projected land use. We analyze this data to provide communities with safe and effective transportation solutions. Our expertise often includes integrating vehicles with pedestrians, bicyclists, and public transit to create "complete streets" designs. We also specialize in traffic impact studies, calming solutions, improved crossing designs, and lane capacity analysis.

CFS performs roadway safety assessments in both urban and rural settings with regards to crash data interpretation, crash trends, roadway safety audits, speed surveys, traffic calming solutions, sight distance evaluations, and access management requirements. Through our process of taking inventory of safety concerns and evidence of roadside damage, a list of possible crash countermeasures can then be determined to reduce the number of crashes. Based on a benefit-cost ratio, system-wide and site-specific recommendations can be evaluated to fit within near-term and future projects.

Green Infrastructure and BMPs

CFS is committed to incorporating environmentally sustainable elements into all design projects, carefully balancing cost-effectiveness and quality. We have a proven track record of promoting low-maintenance installations and thoughtfully considering the short- and long-term environmental impact of each project. Our designs are mindful of potential effects on jurisdictional waters, lands, and species, and we proactively address environmental regulatory issues.
