Summary
The Senior Traffic Engineer/Project Manager will lead and oversee complex traffic engineering projects. The position will also mentor and assign project duties to other technical staff. Responsible for interaction with personnel, clients and any others associated with the successful delivery of projects.
Responsibilities

Lead technical staff, including engineers and design technicians, with all aspects of project delivery, including scheduling resources, directing assignments, mentoring, and training of personnel.

Demonstrate project management capabilities with technical staff.

Apply practical application of engineering science, specifically traffic engineering, and technology to perform all duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Manage and oversee traffic engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to EITs (0–5 years) to support their career development.

Perform professional traffic engineering work and conduct more complex/comprehensive investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

Oversees the development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and implements future-ready solutions with traffic engineering design standards.

Prepare technical drawings and specifications for transportation projects to ensure that the concept or design meets the owner's needs, is coordinated with other design professionals, and conforms to standards and customer requirements.

Educate engineers, customers, and others on the current status of traffic control device compliance and potential engineering solutions.

Review customer or public complaints, determine the nature and extent of the problem, and recommend remedial measures.

Research, gather traffic data, analyze traffic volume data, analyze traffic crash data, and assist with the preparation of traffic engineering studies and reports.

Analyze long-range plans, survey reports, maps, and other data in order to plan/design projects.

Conduct trip generation analysis and trip distribution planning for new land uses and developments.

Conduct traffic level-of-service analysis using microsimulation software, create simulated traffic patterns for analysis of new roadway network improvements and connections, and operate traffic gathering equipment.

Apply script writing tools for use in big data transportation research projects.

Apply calculated results from the Highway Safety Manual to assess potential results from the implementation of design solutions.

Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning the stages of, and risk analysis for, a project.

Estimate transportation project costs.

Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks with particular focus areas including geometric alignment of roadways and trails, pavement marking, signage, traffic control, signal design, and pedestrian safety improvements.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

Experience with traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, AutoCAD).

Active PE license required; Active PTOE license preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a fast-paced work environment.

Familiarity with relevant transportation codes, guidelines, and regulatory processes.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent in civil engineering or related field; Master’s Degree or higher degree preferred.
