JOB Summary

CFS Engineers is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to serve as a technical expert across roadway, traffic, and multimodal transportation projects. This role is ideal for someone who excels at solving complex engineering challenges, collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and contributes technical leadership with some project management responsibilities. You’ll lead technical engineering work, guide and mentor junior staff, and help deliver high quality designs and analyses that improve mobility and safety in the communities we serve. Client interaction will be moderate, focused on technical discussions, project management, and coordination.

DUTIES / Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and analysis for roadway, traffic, and multimodal projects, including geometric design, traffic operations, safety evaluations, and corridor studies.

  • Prepare and review plans, specifications, reports, and supporting documentation for municipal, county, and state transportation projects.

  • Participate in client meetings as needed to discuss project progress, technical solutions, and coordination items.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians without direct supervisory duties.

  • Conduct and oversee traffic modeling, capacity analysis, multimodal evaluations, and safety assessments using industry‑standard tools.

  • Ensure all work complies with applicable standards, including AASHTO, MUTCD, state DOT requirements, and local agency guidelines.

  • Support proposal development through technical input, scope refinement, and level‑of‑effort estimates.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, partners, and regulatory agencies.

Required and/or Preferred Skills/Abilities

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate active construction sites.

  • Proficiency with transportation design and analysis tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Synchro, HCS, or similar platforms.

  • Strong understanding of transportation planning, traffic operations, and roadway design principles.

  • Strong understanding of multimodal design principles, traffic operations, and roadway engineering.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to clients, team members, and stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in roadway and/or traffic engineering.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
