JOB Summary
The Senior Civil Designer supports our engineers and project managers by producing high‑quality civil design plans, exhibits, and technical drawings for a variety of public and private infrastructure projects. This role requires advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. The Senior Civil Designer plays a key role in ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across all design deliverables.
DUTIES / Responsibilities

Develop detailed civil design drawings, plans, and exhibits using AutoCAD Civil 3D

Prepare grading, drainage, utility, roadway, and site layout designs with minimal oversight

Support engineers with plan production, design calculations, and project documentation

Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to meet project deadlines

Maintain drawing templates, standards, and file organization for project efficiency

Assist in mentoring junior designers and drafters

Incorporate redlines, design revisions, and client feedback into updated plan sets

Prepare exhibits for permitting, public meetings, and client presentations

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal design standards and requirements

Perform other duties as assigned to support the office and project success.
Required and/or Preferred Skills/Abilities

Experience mentoring or training junior staff

Familiarity with Bluebeam, GIS tools, and other design‑support software

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Understanding of project workflows, permitting processes, and plan production standards
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
-
10+ years of progressive civil design experience; 20–30 years preferred for senior‑level competency

Associate Degree in Drafting and Design, Civil Engineering Technology or Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, corridors, pipe networks, surfaces, alignments)

Strong understanding of civil engineering principles related to site development, roadway design, utilities, and stormwater

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Experience with municipal, DOT, or land development projects preferred
