Kasold Drive Waterline
Lawrence, Kansas
The waterline design involved the full replacement and relocation of the existing waterline in this fully developed area. Coordination with utility companies was essential due to the numerous existing utilities throughout the corridor. Determining existing locations, potholing, and planning relocations were necessary during the design process. The design included replacing all existing services along the alignment, installing bends, tees, valves, reducers, anchor couplings, fire hydrants, caps/plugs, a backflow preventer & vault, reconnecting existing fire hydrants, and installing the waterline using directional drilling. The project also required a comprehensive traffic control and erosion control plan. Directional drilling was employed to minimize impacts to traffic flow. Branch watermains were replaced and reconnected to the existing waterline down each side street. The backflow preventer and vault were installed on the Presbyterian Manor property to move the existing unit from inside the building to within 50 feet of the public main, in conformance with City code.
