Rockwell Lane Bridge
Kansas City, Missouri
The new Rockwell Lane Bridge serves primarily as an important flood control element for Brush Creek. Reflecting the architecture of the Country Club Plaza, the bridge aesthetically enhances the surrounding park and provides a gateway to the Westwood Subdivision. Ornate balusters and hunter green lamps accent the stonework used within the large bridge structure.
Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineers, P.A. received the 1997 Engineering Excellence Award for this project as well as the Arts Commission Excellence Award for applying the hydraulic information provided by the Kansas City District COE into the park setting of Kansas City's Plaza area by providing imagination to a proven technology.

Shawnee Mission Parkway Interchange at
Maurer Road
Shawnee, Kansas
The Maurer Road Interchange at Shawnee Mission Parkway was designed to provide safer and more efficient mobility while negotiating lanes. The interchange's close proximity to Lackman Road and I-435 brought further safety concerns. Project involved design of a complex interchange to include traffic signals and lighting at Lackman and I-435. CFS was responsible for Project Administration, Surveys, Traffic Analysis, Drainage Study, Design, Construction Documents, Public Involvement and Aerial Photogrammetry.
Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineers, P.A. received 2004 Excellence in Concrete Award.

Route 13 Highway
St. Clair County, Missouri
The Route 13 Location and Design Study extends from the Henry/St. Clair County line to 1.2 miles south of Collins. Two lanes were added to the existing 2-lane roadway to provide a 4-lane divided expressway with an interchange at U.S. Route 54. Providing a safe and efficient transportation facility that responds to the needs of the traveling public and the local citizenry was the major focus of this study. Specific needs addressed by this action include providing a reduction in the number and severity of traffic accidents, eliminating existing highway deficiencies such as narrow bridges, and relieving existing and projected traffic congestion. Additional needs include improving public safety by reducing emergency vehicle response times and improving the movement of people through the region by reducing travel times within the study area.
Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineers, P.A. received 2001 Excellence in Paving Award.

East Kellogg Avenue (US 54/400), Woodlawn Interchange
Wichita, Kansas
The Woodlawn Interchange project was 1.04 miles in length. This project benefits the residents of Wichita by improving traffic service in the congested Kellogg corridor. Kellogg Avenue (US 54/400) is the primary thoroughfare through Wichita. The original roadway was a four lane arterial street with two-way traffic on frontage roads. Signalized intersections at the major cross streets, Woodlawn and Edgemoor, significantly increased congestion. East Kellogg Avenue has been improved to a depressed six lane limited access expressway with adjacent two lane one-way traffic frontage roads. The major cross streets are grade separated and include turnarounds between the Frontage Roads. The reduced travel congestion and associated travel time result in significant savings of time and fuel for the citizens of Wichita.
Cook, Flatt & Strobel Engineers, P.A. received the 2007 ACEC Kansas Engineering Excellence Award and the 2006 American Concrete Institute Bridge Award.
